Are shurikens (throwing stars) legal or illegal in NYS?
I suspect that the answer is probably no, but I figure I'd ask anyhow. Saw a website online that does not say they cannot ship to NY, only that they cannot ship to Mass. or CA.

I do believe they are illegal in NY.

They are illegal in NYS. And this is solid proof that anti gun laws may in fact work... When was the last time you heard of someone in NY being killed by a chinese throwing star!?

Can anyone cite the PL section and the crime itself? Thanks.

look in 265 of the NYS Penal Code:...
"15-b. "Kung Fu star" means a disc-like object with sharpened points on the circumference thereof and is designed for use primarily as a weapon to be thrown."
-
§ 265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth
degree when:
(1) He or she possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic
stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal
knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, plastic knuckles,
metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type
slingshot or slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or
-
There are exceptions for many items listed, but not the "Kung Fu stars"
