New Hunter - Need Help Finding A Safety Course

Hey Everyone,

My co-workers have been discussing hunting trips both in state and out of state. I've never hunted before and know I need to take a hunting safety course to get a hunting license. We will probably be hunting deer in NYS and wild boar in Texas but for now I'm only worried about my NYS license.

Does anybody have good leads on places to take the course this time of year? I live and work in the city but am on Long Island frequently visiting family.

Try contacting your local town hall, sometimes they will have info on the courses. Have you asked around at your local gun club, they should definitely have some information.

The classes are typically listed here: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9191.html They'll be updating that soon. I'd say call around to the closest gun shops to you, which I'm guessing would be in Long Island.

Yep hit the DEC website. I was talking to our local NY game officer last week and she said they havent got much going yet for hunter safety courses.
