FWIW, you can email a scan of your license to MidwayUSA and get on their dealer pricing list. It looks like it's worth about a 5-7% discount, at least on the stuff I've been able to compare. It'd take me a while to offset the license fee just on that discount, but considering my local dealers charge $45 for a transfer the license will pay for itself on the first rifle purchase.

$45 for a transfer! My jaw literally just hit my desk. Dealer pricing in general is less than stellar on just about everything regardless of who you deal with. I don't know how these retail gun shops stay in business. Oh wait, that must be where those $45 transfers come into play!

Yeah, it was an interesting exercise in creative swearing when I bought a $99 receiver with a $45 transfer fee.

Keep in mind the two nearest shops to my house are gunsmiths with small operations. I think Beikirch's charges less to transfer guns they don't carry, but other than a piece of Communist surplus here or there I'm more likely to buy something out of their stock. I'd rather deal locally anyway, unless the markup is completely outrageous.

I think Dick's Sporting Goods will do transfers, but I don't know how much they'd charge.

That is why I'm looking into my 03, I'm 26 and planning to collect firearms until I die, so those transfer fees could add up.
