Default Best place to shoot shotguns/rifles near Rochester, NY?

I was wondering if anyone knew some good places to shoot shotguns and rifles within 30 mins of Rochester, NY?

What type of shotgun shooting do you want to do?

My favorite place to shoot is at Springwater!

There are a lot of clubs with ranges around the city. I don't know any on the west side but to the south there's Rochester Brooks (in Rush) and to the east in Penfield there's Genesee Conservation League and Outlet Rod and Gun Club. Further east there's Williamson Conservation & Sporting Club and Walworth Sportsmen's Club. (I'm a member of the last two.)

There's also the Rochester Rifle Club in Brighton (I think, it's on south Winton near the canal) although despite the name it's a 50 foot indoor range. I don't know what restrictions they have on caliber but they have a .22 caliber rifle league.

If you're on the west side of the city, come over to 4 Point in Scottsville. 2 trap, 2 skeet, 50ft pistol/200yd rifle outdoor range.

Too bad their hours during the week suck.

Sry it took so long, forgot I'd even posted there.

    Hours are:

    - Saturday 12:00pm - 4:00pm
    - Sunday 10:00am - 4:00pm
    - Thursday 5:30pm - 8:00pm

It should be noted (since Monty pointed out that our hours "suck") that any member can purchase a key to access the club grounds (everything but the clubhouse) to use any shooting venue during the day (Its I think 10am IIRC until dusk). We are a completely volunteer organization, with no paid help at this point. Up until a few years ago, we were only open Sundays (same deal applied to the keys, but the club house was only open then).

All that is kinda moot now, since we just (Thursday) filled to our capacity of 500. You can still shoot trap and skeet as a non-member, but you'll be charged non-member rates ($4.50/round vs $3.50), and will be unable to use the rifle/pistol range (or drink alcohol at the bar) unless you are the guest of a current member.

We will be accepting new members in september assuming everyone doesn't renew and some openings are created. If you want to get on the waiting list now, stop down and leave your name, vacancies will be filled by the order on the waiting list.

I am an rrc member, and I don't think it's what you are looking for. It is .22 lr or air only for rifles, and only under 1400fps for the rifles. And yes, only 50 feet. Handguns are allowed with a wide range of calibres, but I'm only a rifle shooter, so I don't know the limits offhand. No shotguns.

If you don't mind the restrictions, its a great place. 24/7 key card access, and it's heated for winter shooting. Most of the time I'm there by myself.

I have heard good things about Williamson, and may join this spring to shoot longer ranges.

Come on down! Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9 until noon or so there's somebody in the clubhouse who can answer questions for you and give you an application. You'll need to schedule an orientation session with a club officer before you can shoot there, but if you come in on a Saturday for your app there's a good chance there will be a session on Sunday.
