Default Hello from lower Westchester County

Hello all. I am Chris from New Rochelle. I stumbled across this sight while on the net researching AR-15's. I recently found out that AR's are legal in NY when some of the so called assault features are removed. I was on Remingtons website looking at the 700's and saw the R-15 and found out it was legal to have in NY. So while looking into the R-15 I found out that the AR is legal in NY. I never looked into the AR's because I thought they were not legal to have in NY. Now I want one for my collection.

I dont know anything about AR's but hopefully over the next few weeks on here I will learn about them. The closest thing I have shot to an AR is the FNC. I see a lot of opinions on which brand is the best. For a while while doing my research it seemed DPMS was a better brand but now I'm not too sure about that. It seems that all brands have thier strong points and weakness. I want to buy a fully built one for my first one to get to know the rifle and to make sure it is what I really want. Maybe at a later date I will buy a better quality fully built one or build one my self after I learn all the ins and outs of the AR.

I want it for home protection but will also use it for target shooting at around 100 to 200 yards. Until then, I will be around here researching the AR.

Welcome to the forum and if you have any questions just ask! Stick with a quality brand AR15 or one built with quality parts and you will be good to go. I would recommend LMT, I think they are the best bang for the bang and are a quality built product.

I am open to any brand suggestions. I will research any brand that comes up here. I just dont want to start new threads that repeat old threads. I will search all I can to try to find an answer before I post a question. Thanks for dealing with an AR newbie.

What I like about this forum is its NY specific and deals with all NY compliant firearms.

Definitely check out LMT, I think I'm going to build another AR and it will be all LMT.

Welcome to the site. I am around New Rochelle also. I started with a lowpro DPMS and it is a good AR for the buck I paid during the Obama gun bubble. Only thing about it is when I tried to install a mabpul bad system on it. I found out the upper was shaped different than most other AR15 out there. That is not a huge thing but you should think about what mods you want and make sure its good to go on the brand AR your picking up.
