2 Range trips this week, some pics, and updated Sig config
got to the range like 3x this week already. Hoping to go again possibly Friday.
Anyhow my most recent trip was with Wildman from the forum here. Was a pretty good day for shooting, as the rain/drizzle held off until we finished up and were heading out.
Wildman brought a variety of 3 of his AKs, and also tested out his new pistols that he picked up. I must say his CZ-75 compact in .40S&W is an EXCELLENT shooter. The standard grips are awesome, and the thing shoots the center out of your target with ease. Not bad recoil at all for a .40 round , I think its because its a heavier pistol (being its all metal and no polymers on it).
I dragged one of my new Sig 556s and my Stag/Aero 16inch AR. Didnt bring any AKs as I know Wildman has quite the variety already haha. Shot my Beretta 92FS mostly for pistol.
Range trip before that I also brought my Sig with me, been playing around with the accessory rails, add-ons, and sights a bit. Shot with my buddy Pink who just got back a few months ago from Afghanistan on his second tour. Spent a good 4 hours at the range that day. Weather was perfect for it. He shot his new AR that he got from one of the NY based forums, and also his old Daewoo with new micro Aimpoint on it. Unique rifle, im just not a fan of the irons sitting so low, i find it hard to get a good sight picture easily/quickly. The irons and aimpoint micro actually cowitness perfectly on it which is cool though.
Heres a few pictures from the trip with Pink that I took. Didnt take any pics at the trip with Wildman. Perhaps next time.
added a foregrip and a sling (Midway brand 1 point). Waiting to get a red dot for this one..
Matt I had a BLAST to say the least. That range is beautiful. I appreciate you bringing me up there. That sig is pretty sweet but I liked your AR better. The trigger in the AR really made that decision for me. Next time I'll drag the camera with me. I already had enough crap with me as it is haha. Thanks again for letting me play with all your toys. Glad you enjoyed the AK's and pistols :-)
nice pics, but i thought we werent allowed folding stocks? (unless thats a pre-ban that i cant see lol)
PL 265 has an exemption for manufacturers.

target shooters say in CMP, and those that perform at Camp Perry (few of my friends did in the past), will say DONT rest the gun on the mag, or even hold onto the mag...

Ive personally never experienced any malfunctions due to the mag being used as a rest. Not in a .223/5.56 AR. It WILL malfunction (it has and will), if you run a Ciener, CMMG or other .22LR drop in kit with a .22LR magazine. .22LR mags dont need much any movement at all to misfeed the top round. The tinyest bit of wiggle will make it literally smash nose first into the feed ramp, etc.
The amount of movement for a regular AR mag in the mag well is minimal at best. Normally the malfunctions I see on the range are either because of crappy beat to piss magazines, guns that havnt been cleaned since they left the factory, or franken-ARs that were cobbled together improperly or of the most poor of components. Keep the gun clean, lubed, and most any AR will perform as it should.
That said, if i shoot prone, i use a 20rnd so it doesnt touch the ground, OR i keep it supported where it doesnt contact the ground. normally bench rest ill use a 30 and rest it on the mag. other times ill use a range bag as a rifle rest and not use the magazine as a rest on the table. its more personal preference i think than anything. id feel safe either way.
Thank you, that was so well explained as even I understood it. Grin:
is that clifton park? im always down for a range trip in the cap district. great looking sig i have a classic 556
Np Terry. Sometimes I ramble or talk in a circle though haha.
