I just got home from taking the Pistol Permit Pre-licensing Safety Class offered by Rochester Personal Defense and I was very pleased with the class to say the least. It touched on many topics, all of which a person who is applying for their pistol permit should be familiar with. Some of the topics covered in the class included the laws and regulations that pertain to carrying a concealed firearm, how to handle an encounter with a LEO and when you should notify them that you are carrying, the mindset and responsibilities of carrying, ballistics, holster and other equipment that compliment CCW.
I'm not a believer in restricting people from possessing firearms but I do believe a basic course like the one offered from R.P.D. should be mandatory before receiving a CCW permit. The basic information this course provides allows anyone who is considering a CCW permit to make a more informed decision if CCW is right for them.
Overall I thought the class provided a great amount of information and would be extremely useful for someone not familiar with the laws and regulations that relate to handguns and CCW permits in NY. I'm looking forward to getting my CCW permit and taking more of the class offerings by Dave and Rochester Personal Defense.
