The Gripper is a good choice and you can find them for a decent price on the internet. Let me know and I will send you a few links. My last one I paid $55 for + shipping.
It is an everyday thing because I work (as you know) in a non-permissive environment for firearms. But there are no rules/regs for knives. The pocket clip on my folder is visible while the SFB is not.
Mainly, the SFB I carry is an integral part of my personal defense profile geared toward multi-disciplinary proficiency providing me the tools necessary to transition between skill sets through various ranges of engagement. And as stated previously the SFB is faster and easier to access under pressure. Why would I carry an inferior tool when I have a legal, superior option available to me?
Here are examples of 4 different SFB options:
Clinch Pick
Emerson LaGriffe
Hideaway
TDI
Any or all of these can be set up for strong hand access but can also be accessed with the support hand with some training. Or, a dedicated support hand set up can be EDC.
